Are you a Triathlete or Duathlete  ?  Then possibly you’re finding it hard to slot training-time in with work and family.

This is the second of two articles that covers some key principles that can help with your training.  If the first article isn’t just above this one, then you can find it at Duathlon Training.

Holistic Fueling

Unfortunately many endurance athletes use the rigor of training and a quick  metabolism to justify a diet that is incredibly calorie dense (as it should be), but also high in foods that can damage their performance, immune system, heart, hormones and overall health. If their diet were better , maybe they wouldn’t have to train so much ! It’s important to understand that with an exercise regimen that’s already very difficult for the average human body to absorb, a triathlete or duathlete must adopt a nutrition routine  that supports complete health. The solution involves focusing on promoting rapid recovery, fighting inflammation, reducing potential toxins, and powering the immune system . A healthy meal plan includes food that help to prevent inflammation,  nutrition supplements, avoids common traps while grocery shopping, and gets a perfectly balanced ratios of protein, carbohydrate and fat. When your cells are firing on all cylinders, it feels great during a long day race.  This principle is the key to ensuring that you cross the finish line, knowing that you’ve cared for your body and not done any damage with your high daily calorie intake .

Time Flexibility

There will be days when you  can’t complete a planned workout or you have to mix-n-match workouts in order to attend an important board meeting, make it to your kid’s soccer tournament, or go to a holiday party.

Because cycling and running programs involve a lot of different blocks of training, a good workout plan is one that’s organized so that it can be incredibly flexible.  Then when you need to, it can be re-arranged without disrupting the overall effectiveness of the course of training. For instance, one week in your schedule might involve Monday and Wednesday cycling and strength training sessions, Tuesday and Thursday runs and a Friday rest day. But you can easily shift the workouts to separate days , or even select a different day for a rest day. Flexible weekends are important too – choose which days to complete the workouts depending on whether Saturday or Sunday is best for you .

You may have heard that the average duathlete or triathlete runs 30 and cycles 300 miles a week  .  And perhaps you’ve heard stories of the year long sabbaticals from work, the neglected families, the ruined marriages and the obsessive life-style that results from the really difficult attempts to maintain a normal lifestyle while training; or that the majority of these individuals walk across the finish line and have a complete lack of confidence and preparation for the race, despite giving up their lives to barely even complete the race!

Plans actually do exists that allow you to make good use of your time and still have a life and some reviews of these can be found here: Duathlon training

How To Cycle On A Windy Day
Not only is cycling good exercise, but also provides a great opportunity to talk with friends. It is a relatively cheap sport to get into and can still be performed at old age.
Find out good strategies for cycling against a headwind! Find out how to still ride effeciently against a bad headwind.Cycling TutorialsLearn To Become A Better Cycler

Wind is probably the most annoying thing in all sports. Here, you’ll learn how to cope with it while riding your bike. The first and most obvious tip is to get down. Doing this will significantly decrease your wind resistance. Try to puch your chin onto the stern of the bike. It helps to think of the wind as a hill. If it was a hill, just don’t lose motivation and downshift two gears. Don’t try and maintain the same speed you would if there was no wind. All that does is demotivate you and waste energy. Even though you’ll be going slower, don’t try to go as fast as you normally would. Try not to wear too much of a loose coat. Wearing that will just make it harder.Cycling Tutorials

In the off season for cycling, it’s very important to have another sport or activity to do. It’s good to have one activity that only increases strength. Try taking a weight training class, or if that’s too difficult try just lifting them on your own at the gym or at home. More importantly, you need to be doing aerobic exercise. This means things that get your heart pumping hard for more than 20-30 minutes. Some aerobic exercises for cycling are: swimming, running and spinning classes. Try to be as consistent as you can in your training. You should go to the gym at least once every two days, but the more the better.

Whether you are looking to get back in shape or simply want to enjoy the outdoors, purchasing a men’s mountain bicycle is probably the greatest investment you will ever make. After a long and cold winter, most of us are eager to shed off the couple of extra pounds and one with the fastest and at the same time more pleasant way to do that is biking. You are able to bike either on your personal, while listening to some excellent music on your mp3 player, or you can bicycle with friends, family or your kids.

Mountain biking, nevertheless, is a completely various story – it is most suitable for men who not only love the outdoor activities, but have excellent passion for adrenaline sports. Going off-road and testing your bike and your own physical abilities to the limit isn’t only challenging, but very rewarding too.

Nevertheless, the range of mens mountain bike types which are being sold today is quite wide, so what is that you should take into account before purchasing 1?

First of all – don’t let the price be your sole deciding point; numerous stores come up with great offers for men’s mountain bikes, but in most cases these aren’t mountain bikes at all. The genuine men’s mountain bikes are created to last, they are rigid, but light, with solid frames, up to 32 gears and built for hard terrains.

The frames with the men’s mountain bikes are sturdy and also the suspension extremely great – actually, the men’s mountain bikes come with various types of suspension namely rigid, soft-tail, hard-tail or dual suspension. Now, which 1 of those you choose depends entirely on the terrain which you intend to concur.  Most guys will go for the rigid suspension, but although this might be a good choice for an uphill men’s mountain bicycle, downhill bikes are completely various story – then you’ll require a minimum of 5 inch travel full suspension (front and rear).

When buying your bike, make certain that you select 1 that fits: even though this may sound like common sense, it’s something that first-time buyers very easily overlook. Whether you’re heavy guy, medium-built or skinny, make certain which you feel comfortable about the bicycle – if at all possible, ride it for a few minutes and if anything simply doesn’t feel correct, take a look at an additional one.

The brakes with the men’s mountain bikes are of two kinds: disk brakes and rim brakes; the disk brakes use newer technology and they provide much better braking and are preferred by most bikers. Nevertheless, they are slightly heavier and a tad pricier, so if this is important to you, you might opt in for the rim brakes.

Let’s face it – purchasing a good men’s mountain bike will cost you at least a few hundred, so you should make sure that you get it right the first time. Consult your more experienced close friends, ask questions on the forums, and once you have created up your mind, shop around for a much better deal. And when you get your dream bike, merely go out and have a great time!

A dangerous yet exciting activity, mountain biking can cover a range of ground from steep inclines to more gentle lowland terrain making for a variety of biking trails. No-one loses from mountain biking; it’s fun, healthy and green – both riders and the countryside benefit. Not only that, models like Trek mountain bikes are even made leaner, meaner and greener these days – helping keep the industry’s integrity by being true to its green, healthy image.

The integrity of mountain bikers themselves is also important. Keeping healthy means that riders are able to manage the sometimes tricky trails that they deliberately seek-out. Whilst those riders who use Trek mountain bikes for example, will no doubt have the staying power to complete difficult trails, it’s equally important to maintain physical power as well.

Body weight and physical strength is important to mountain bikers because it enables them to take better control of situations they may come across when riding. It helps them to ‘stay loose’, meaning that they retain the ability to react and ride freely through difficult obstacles and terrain, without losing control.

Doing pull-ups and push-ups helps achieve increased physical strength relatively easily and simply. However, following a properly worked out and regular routine can do more for the aspiring rider of Trek mountain bikes than simply doing these basic moves.

Taking the advice of a fitness instructor is a good idea, and there are numerous books on the subject from recognised mountain biking professionals like John Metcalfe. Also, following big manufacturers’ teams in brand sponsored events, such as Trek World Racing to see how the professionals themselves prepare for events and tournaments is a good idea.

Owning a prestigious machine from a range like Trek mountain bikes is one thing, but ensuring you’re fit enough to ride, enjoy and stay in control is quite another.

The first bike wheels were made from horse drawn cart wheels!   Wooden wheels with a metal band around the bicycle rim were very hard and uncomfortable to ride.  Cycling became much more fun when the pneumatic tire was invented and tarred roads came along.    And after the first wooden rimmed wheels there  came steel, alloy and now if you can afford it, carbon.  These days you can take into account a number of different things including the material used, the shapes/cross-section and the hub construction ( spoked or solid ).

Out of all the bicycle parts the bicycles wheel rims can influence your bike’s handling the most  .  If you’re into bike workouts where you’re moving fast, this can be important, and if you’re a sprinter or climber then you need light wheel rims so that you don’t get slowed down.  With road biking, where the surfaces are flat and even, it’s easier to get the wheels rolling and then the weight gives you good momentum to keep moving  .

Flat rims are best for climbing, as aerodynamics are not so important on a hill, while a deep section, aerodynamic wheel rim will help you cut through the air if you’re moving fast ( you can get some handling problems with these in strong cross-winds though  ). So the shape of the rim can be important too.

The material used in a bike rim should be taken into account.  Steel is heavy can be hard to repair if a wheel gets damaged, but it’s also quite difficult to bend in the first place and cheaper than all the other materials.

Alloy is probably the most popular now-days.  It can be made into any shape and profile, flat or aero, but not too deep as it would then weigh too much.  Most deep section rims have an alloy braking section nearest the tire which is then mounted to a carbon deep section for lightness and aerodynamics .

The best wheel rim would have to be an all-carbon one.  Carbon is strong and very light, but in wet conditions their braking isn’t so good.  so you need special brake blocks for carbon which are quite expensive.  Also the rim has to be perfectly round and not have any bulges in the rim wall or the braking can become erratic.  Carbon is a difficult material to work with and must be well looked after.

The type of tire you intend using also influences what rim you go after.  There are two types:

  1. Tubular tires are glued onto the bicycle rim.  These are more modern and cost more ( also being more difficult to repair )   but for racing they feel and ride wonderfully.
  2. Clincher tires fit into the rim.  They’re the sort that have been used from the outset of inflatable tires and have improved stacks recently, being  nearly as good as tubulars for performance and are easily repairable and cost far less.

So there’s a lot to decide on, but one good thing these days is that most rim-makers also manufacture there own wheel sets – Mavic, Shimano and Campagnolo are probably the best known, and there are other brands as well.  The manufacturers produce the wheels as complete units so that you can buy them already set-up for the type of riding you’ll be doing .

I’m nearly surely not the sole individual who’s blown away discovering the fantastic diversity from the bikes which are presently obtainable. A lot such as the majority of men and women my age, I grew up employing a easy bicycle with one particular rate and coaster brakes. That was great for fast outings however when I purchased my extremely initial 3-speed Schwinn bike I started out to actually appreciate the activity of biking. Proper following college I discovered that 10-speed touring bikes had been good for extended flat rides however the riding position killed my back.

I bear in mind the initial mountain motorcycles that created their way towards the marketplace and they seemed to offer when using the ease and comfort challenges. Via the fundamental addition of the softer seat and a little of handlebar resetting, the rider could ride in the almost upright posture. The only real actual issue I observed experienced been the difficult ride offered by regular mountain bicycle tires. About this incredibly exact same time time period, there appeared to become a restored interest inside the aged fashioned beachfront cruiser motorcycles that experienced the bigger soft tires I experienced grown up utilizing. Yet I should confess, I missed the benefit of owning multi-speeds.

It wasn’t lengthy right up until lastly several with the primary bicycle producers started making hybrid motorcycles. The primary numerous many years they merely took a typical street bicycle and switched out the bike handlebars for upright mountain bicycle types. Practically all went having a tire the equivalent size or only a little far more significant then their personal street motorcycles, just using a particular quantity of much more aggressive tread. Generally the early hybrids had been just a little additional secure then the normal street touring bike but their tires produced them a little worse on pavement and therefore just very good for gravel or dirt paths off road. Do not get me incorrect, they had been undoubtedly proceeding within the greatest direction.

Perfect now, it is not tough to become mixed up involving terminology for instance mountain bikes, seashore cruiser bikes, hybrid bikes and also commuter bikes, electric bikes and folding bikes. Mainly because from the quantity of distinctly distinct kinds of bikes to look at you’ll have to select the range that’s most desirable for the particular kind of riding. Each and every and every single design of bicycle pointed out has specific functions which make them significantly far better for a single sort of riding then one more.

Nevertheless I do feel the greatest point about cycling these days is in fact the capability to adapt or customize mens bikes for your specific requirements. Previously you have been very constrained when looking for bicycle components or components due towards the truth that neighborhood bicycle retailers just stocked components for their specific manufacturer names of items.

These days you will come across web sites presenting not just a lot of manufacturers of motorcycles but a big wide variety of bike elements and add-ons. It is possible to simply come across Schwinn bike elements, Shimano bike elements, bike bags, bike locks, bike handlebars, bike brakes, as well as bike tires and wheels in a single handy location. The greatest component of buying on-line is that most products are in stock and also you do not need to concern your self with unique orders.

The wonderful supply of bike components allows essentially any bike owner to incredibly very easily personalize his bike for ultimate convenience and efficiency. It appears it is undoubtedly just one technique of transportation which stays low-cost and also could be pretty wholesome. So why not check out a manufacturer new bicycle this season or at the least tuning up that aged one particular within your garage.

Altering a mountain bicycle fork is an effective method of upgrading your mountain bicycle. Nowadays, forks customarily come with suspension systems, to help with a motorbike’s handling and maneuverability on rougher terrain. Mountain bike forks are labeled in accordance with the expertise incorporated in them. Some bike forks embrace 4X and Jump suspension forks, Freeride / Mountain suspension forks, Each sort of suspension fork has its personal advantages and downsides, and is developed for explicit surfaces and uses. Important aspects of suspension forks embrace journey, which is the measurement for the motion of a suspension coil from motion to rest.

Leap and 4X forks are usually have short journey, coil-sprung forks. The coils transfer from 80 to 100 millimeters sometimes and are made to cushion heavy landings without an excessive amount of entrance-finish compression, enabling the rider to immediately get well and proceed riding. These are secure forks whose weights are directly in proportion to their durability. These suspension forks are essentially the most sturdy.

Freeride Lite or suspension forks journey more than cross-country forks, with movement as much as around 6 inches at maximum. These forks are expectedly heavier than different fork types, rendering lockout even more important. With these forks, most riders tend to go along with coil-sprung forks vs air-sprung ones. The coils do make the forks heavier, yet much less at the mercy of harm once the subject of highly effective impacts.

XC cross-country forks typically have low levels of journey, and are built for light weight. These single-crown suspension forks have, on the typical, from eighty to one hundred millimeters of travel. Forks built for cross-country bikes now more and more utilise air springs, whereby air stress takes the place of elastometers or springs. Since these already mentioned parts are not current or wanted, the bike’s overall weight is lighter. These kinds of suspension forks are also simpler to adjust. Nonetheless some riders and producers still use elastometers and coil-sprung forks as these want less maintenance and take extra punishment than XC cross-country forks.

Cannondale Lefty’s and Headshocks have extra modern suspension fork technology, which integrates all mechanisms contained in the body of the bike. The fork is sort of trustworthy, with some top-end variants coming with lockouts for simple adjustment. These forks sometimes lead to extra responsive handling, with energetic suspension and better traction.
